I'm not so sure it isn't my art these days.
Sure photography is an interest and its obviously artistic, it deals with composition, color, techique etc but what about building a car? Is it a craft or can it be art?
I submit that you that you start with a vision and while the basic functionality of a vehicle could be considered a craft, the execution of your original vision is where the art comes into play.
When its done you have made thousands of choices to arrive at your perfect aesthetic.
The finished "piece" becomes a representation of how you present yourself when you commute. I spend more time behind the wheel than anything else as it is.
I used to draw. A lot, then paint. Then I got a design job so I was getting fried on that media so I started building furniture. After a while I was doing a lot more fabricating at work so I was getting bored. My side work is building signs and I stopped having fun making stuff from wood.
Then I got hooked on cars. I'm no Chip Fooze or even a Maaco but what I am doing with my cars is scratching that creative itch that never goes away. It drives me to keep my hands moving. Whatever it is I now have a medium that will catch people's attention and get me to work on time. Win win.
So now I have a few projects rolling around in my brain trying to get out.
Today's pics of my red car are showing my current vision and how I am scratching my art itch...

More to come...
Burnout pix or arson pix
460 is being rebuilt and should show up on the 25th. A buddy in Detroit is heping me out. I am still unsure what was knocking. I thought a rod bearing but all looked OK.
I did have a few other issues so I did a toatl teardown and picked a new cam. After she's up again I think some more car related pix will be in order. Thanks a lot for the comments. Its great to know there are like minded car nuts on DA

I work as a designer and it has fried me on doing personal art.
I switched from woodworking and painting to restoring cars. You would be suprised how much it scratches the itch.
I scored a cheap digital camera to document my resto and catalog parts. When I finished my car I started taking pix of it.
In time they became more artistic. I am a little embarrassed that my subject isn't some highbrow concept stuff, its a freakin car.
Well, a long time ago I had a bad subject matter block and a painting prof said "paint what you care about"...
I painted a bar. Sure it was stupid but I ended up winning an award- Go figure.
So, lowbrow or not maybe I will keep this up and someone will be inspired to buy an oddball muscle car and try this stuff on their own.
